February 18th Meeting

Today we finished up our unit on Love and Families.  Bethany taught that actions can speak louder than words in Character Traits. She challenged all the kids to do one secret service of love for someone in their family. Have they done it yet?

Preschoolers continued to focus of letter recognition and sounds and also shapes and patterning. The book read aloud was by Max Lucado, Someone Special.

In Book club Stef asked some thought-provoking questions to the kids like: Why is your family important? and Who is the most helpful? and Who needs the most help right now in your family? The kids wrote their answers down in their binders so take a look through and see what your kid is thinking about his/her family.

In Music Heidi focused on Folk music. She had many samples of folk music that used banjos, guitars, accordians, harmonicas, and spoons! I heard a lot about this later in the week and the kids even attempted to play spoons right here in our kitchen!

Instead of Art today, we had our Outdoor Ed class with April. She taught the kids all about outdoor survival skills that Native Indians would use in Illinois. The kids saw and touched samples of dried squash, bones to use for digging, animal skin with fur, how to grind corn into meal and how to tap trees for syrup. They also learned about the different roles people would have played in their families. Ask them about that!

Thursday is our field trip to taste and see the works of delicious chocolate!

Moms Night Out has been cancelled and will hopfully be rescheduled for the first part of March.

In March, we will kick of the month with a theme of:
Go Green! Recycle!
